Tawonga's 10th TSL trip - An Israel trip like no other!
Four Weeks: July 15 - August 14
Entering 11th and 12th grades
What is TSL Israel?
Teen Service Learning (TSL) Israel is a teen Israel trip based around
service, experiential learning and travel. These components, coupled with cross-cultural exchanges, teach you what it means to be a responsible Jewish global citizen.
Service and Learning
Roll up your sleeves and make a real difference. On TSL Israel, Tawonga partners with organizations that cultivate ongoing relationships in communities in Israel. Our time in these communities is used to share stories and participate in community improvement projects.
The feeling of working side-by-side with those committed to bettering their communities is an unparalleled and life-changing force long after the trip is over. Learning through discussions, guest speakers, readings and Jewish texts grounds our service in the context of global issues and the Jewish tradition.
Travel
Travel Tawonga-style to visit places of interest all around Israel including Jerusalem, the desert, and the Upper Galilee. From the Western Wall to Bedouin villages, we go beyond the tourist path and the headlines. As part of our travel to the north of Israel, we will stay with Tawonga teens who live in this region and have also attended our Noar L'noar (Youth to Youth) program.
Bring It Home
After an unforgettable trip, head back for four days at Camp Tawonga. Celebrate Shabbat, relax...then present your experiences to younger Tawongans, including everything you’ve learned about Israel, tikkun olam, and the issues facing us as responsible Jewish global citizens.

"TSL changed my life. It made me consider the world from a whole new angle. Before this trip, I never would have considered joining an organization like the Peace Corps - now it is one of my dreams." -David, TSL Israel participant
"You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give." -Winston Churchill
Go Local! TSL Food and Farm takes you across California from the seed to the table!
Three Weeks: June 17-July 6
Entering 9th to 11th grades
Program highlights include:
- Volunteering, living and learning on local farms and at local farmers'
markets
- White water rafting on the American River
- Three days at Camp Tawonga to pass forward your experience to younger campers
Service and Learning
Visit and volunteer on different farms, seeking the answers to questions about where food really comes from. Get your hands dirty planting vegetables, building a fence, or gathering eggs. Experience firsthand the stages of the systems that bring food from field to table.
Go beyond the buzzwords as you grapple with issues like organics, sustainability, and eating local. Find out what our Jewish tradition has to say about food and farming. Armed with new knowledge, a trip to the market will never be the same!
Travel
Take a break from farm work in between each week to go backpacking, whitewater rafting, and celebrate Shabbat. While car-camping and traveling as a small group, you'll see the beauty of California on this unforgettable road trip.
Bring It Home
The last stop on your journey is Camp Tawonga. Relax by the river, see the stars from around the campfire, and share what you’ve learned with the greater community.
