Teen Service Learning
Hillel asked, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If
I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” This service
opportunity is for serious teens that want to make an impact on
the world, and who are ready to make a commitment of hard work.
This trip to Israel is an outstanding opportunity to encounter
different cultures and work hard changing the world for the better.
Israel
July 17 - August 14, 2007
11th - 12th grades
Studying the unique challenges Israel faces as a desert country
in the Negev. Meet Bedouins, the traditional nomadic inhabitants
of this region. Visit Masada, the hilltop fortress of rebel Jewish
heroes. And no visit to the south would be complete without a
magical float in the Dead Sea!
In Jerusalem, tour the holy sites we read about in the
Torah and sing about at camp. Visit the Kotel (the Wailing Wall)
and leave a note in its stones.
In Tel Aviv, enjoy the buzz of this exciting Mediterranean
city. From shopping avenues to sandy beaches, take in the sun
and sizzle of Israel's answer to the big city. Eat the best hummus
anywhere.
Head up north to visit past Tawonga campers in the Galil.
Meet the kids and adults who make up Peace Child Israel, a group
devoted to peacework that visited camp for last year's Peacemakers
Weekend.
This is a service learning experience and teens will work on
important projects alongside local communities. Projects might
include working on gardening at a kibbutz, assisting foreign workers
in Tel Aviv neighborhoods, working with children or studying with
new immigrants.

Selection Process for Teen Leadership
and Service Learning Programs
1. All leadership and service programs
are competitive based on written applications and personal
interviews.
2. Teens - not parents - are responsible for each step in
the process.
3. Apply early because spaces are limited.
4. Applications are available now - call us at (415)543-2267
or download them here:
After submitting an application, teens must call us to make
an appointment for a personal interview. Please do this as
soon as you estimate that we have your application in the
office. Interviews begin as early as December and spaces will
fill on a rolling basis.
